- Active listening is a concept that rose from therapy and typically involves asking a lot of questions and uncovering something. This type of listening is being encouraged in all spaces but doesn't always serve the purpose.
- Creative listening is a new paradigm to listen and has a couple of different approaches -
1. Listen in silence but listen to yourself and the other person. Understand what you're feeling and what's being awoken in you.
2. Ask for the story you want. Give people a prompt. Sometimes when you don't want to have a type of conversation or argument you can shift the narrative.
3. Whine and Dine - At IDEO they used to get people slightly tipsy and then complain about a certain type of product. It gave them a lot of ideas and helped them understand pain points.
