- Authentic dissent can be best defined by what its not - blame, denial, rebellion or resignation. - It is only possible to allow for dissent when there is a space for those to say no. If we cannot say no then the yes has no meaning. - Authentic dissent is incredibly valuable in and of itself and need not be responded to. Leaders in particular need to be mindful of this. --- The fear is that we will make people more negative by making room for refusal. The mental model of the ostrich. If people say no, it does not create their dissent, it only expresses it. It also does not mean they will get their way. Restorative community is that place where saying no doesn’t cost us our membership in the meeting or in the community. Encourage those who say no to stay—we need their voice. - Peter Block in [[Community]]
