- In the Arousal Modulation Theories of Play play is divided into two types
- Epistemic play - Characterised by efficiency and improvement. More intentional serious and tries to achieve a goal. Think a competitive sports person playing to get better.
- Ludic play - More relaxed and focuses on the process of play than the outcomes.
- Ideally we should strive for a harmonious integration of both types.
- I tend to focus on epistemic play and with DotA in particular I started of playing in a ludic manner to destress and enjoy but off late has become more epistemic.
