- In many applications of computers in education, it always feels like the computer is programming the child. Seymour Papert argues that we should aim to create applications where the child is able to express themselves and create something with the computer. - We have seen similar such ideas expressed by Paulo Freire in Pedagogy of the Oppressed and the banking model of education. The teacher programs or puts knowledge in the child rather than the child learning. - This notion borrows from Piaget's ideas of [[Constructivism in Education]] - This is another example where the [[Tail is Wagging the Dog]] --- Seymour rejected the computer-aided instruction approach in which “the computer is being used to program the child” and argued for an alternative approach in which “the child programs the computer.” - Mitchell Resnick in Foreword of [[Mindstorms]]
