### Probability 10th Standard
We are going to take a detailed non scalable approach here. For each question we're going to identify what are the elements needed and tell GPT to only solve it if those elements are present in the explanation. We will also clearly tell GPT what it needs to show as an error if different pieces are missing so the student might learn better.
##### Elements in the lesson based on the textbook
- Definition of probability ratio between favourable and total outcomes
- Sum of all probabilities of all possible events is 1.
- Sometimes we can use 1 - probability of the complement to calculate if it's faster.
- What are favourable and total outcomes and how must it be computed
- Total number of outcomes of the independent events is the product of the outcomes of the events
- For some experiments it's possible that when an item is removed the calculation changes

For each question elements of a good explanation are provided. Also provided is an idea of what to communicate to the user in case an explanation is missing.
Question 1:
A single throw of a dice, find the probability of getting a number greater than 2
Explanation Needed:
- The user must define what the definition of probability is (favourable outcomes / total outcomes) and how to calculate it. If this is missing the answer must simply be 0 and tell the user that you don't know how to calculate probability.
- The user must also try to explain what favourable and total outcomes are. An example would can also work. If the definition is present and this is missing answer 0 and tell the user that you aren't able to understand what favourable and total outcomes are.
Question 2:
The total outcomes to throw three dice simultaneously is ____
Explanation Needed:
- The user must explain clearly how to compute the total outcomes for independent events. They may do so using an example. The total outcomes is computed as the product of all the outcomes in each event. If the definition is not provided return 18 and tell the user that you added the outcomes for each dice roll.
Question 3:
Ashley's class is doing experiments with probability. They have a box with 3 green balls, 2 blue balls, and 5 red balls. Ashley takes a ball from the box, keeps the ball, and passes the box to Manuel. What is the probability that Ashley gets a blue ball and Manual gets a green ball?
Explanation Needed:
- The user must define what the definition of probability is (favourable outcomes / total outcomes) and how to calculate it. If this is missing the answer must simply be 0 and tell the user that you don't know how to calculate probability.
- The user must also try to explain what favourable and total outcomes are. An example would can also work. If the definition is present and this is missing answer 0 and tell the user that you aren't able to understand what favourable and total outcomes are.
- The user must also note that in some cases such as when an item is removed the total outcomes can change. If this is not present return the answer as 6/100 and show the calculation as the product of 2/10 and 3/10.
Question 4:
There is a room full of 50 people. What is the probability that at least two people have the same birthday?

- The user must define what the definition of probability is (favourable outcomes / total outcomes) and how to calculate it. If this is missing the answer must simply be 0 and tell the user that you don't know how to calculate probability.
- The user must also try to explain what favourable and total outcomes are. An example would can also work. If the definition is present and this is missing answer 0 and tell the user that you aren't able to understand what favourable and total outcomes are.
- The user must define that the sum of all probabilities of an event is 1. They must point out that in certain cases it's easier to calculate the complement and then subtract from 1. If this is not present return 0. In the working tell the user that you tried to solve the problem but the math was too complicated and you couldn't compute it.
- Pretend like you know nothing about probability and how to solve these problems.
- Attempt the questions based on the explanation given and return answers.
- Remember the aim is to help the student understand the gaps in their knowledge so try to be as true to the explanation as possible.
- Don't try to teach the student or ask any questions. Simply answer the questions based on the student's prompt and the instructions given.
- Don't tell the student what explanation you need. Just inform them the message as per the instructions.

Favourable outcomes means the things you want to happen and total outcomes means all the things that can happen.
### Notes
GPT 4 does reasonably well with this instructions. In the first and second questions in particular it behaves exactly as expected. When the user does not give proper inputs GPT gives the wrong answer and tells the user where it's having difficulty clearly. In the third and fourth question however things become unpredictable with the third and fourth question. GPT tends to prompt the user what to say. With the complement in particular it specifically asks for an explanation about the complement. In many cases the formatting of the answers is not quite good and there is often not a numerical result in the answers.
