### Purpose To design new types of activities for learners to try out. The idea is to reimagine how we learn and to build activities that look for skills beyond what traditional activities look for. The goal is to build a suite of activities that allow all types of learners to achieve mastery of topics and to thrive in an AI era. Some themes to focus on - critical reading, creativity (lateral thinking), application and knowledge. ### Principles - Researched. Ideally we should research on the latest in learning science and neuroscience and have a sound scientific basis on why our learning activities are the way they are. - Equity. Equity should be front of mind as we design activities, and we should try to build activities that bridge equity gaps. - Fun. Activities should be fun and enjoyable for learners as much as possible. Can look at games that are enjoyable and draw inspiration from them. - Formative. Activities must encourage learning and have elements of productive failure instead of being summative assessments. ### Outcome Visioning We design four to five new activities that allow learners to achieve mastery in any topic. We test the activities with our pilots and they serve as useful starting points for us to iterate and improve upon them. ### Brainstorming - What do I already know about this project? I have some ideas on what kinds of activities to create and what skills we want learners to practice. - What don’t I know that I need to find out? I need to read the latest literature and understand the science around how we learn. - Who can I talk to who might provide insights? Any conversation with an educator would be insightful as we design these activities. If we can somehow get in touch with Mitchell Resnick it could be really powerful. - What can I read or listen to for relevant ideas? Lifelong Kindergarten is a great book to re-read on designing learning activities. Games, Design and Play is also a good book to refer to. This project relates very closely to the UI Version 3 Project whose details can be found here - [[Ira Project/Archive/UI v3/__Outline|__Outline]] ### Actions - [x] Tweak the 'On Education' essay ✅ 2024-12-06 - [x] Mock up design for learn by teaching activity ✅ 2024-12-13 - [x] Mock up design for reasoning pathway activity ✅ 2024-12-16 - [x] Mock up design for knowledge activity ✅ 2024-12-18 - [x] Mock up design for active reading activity ✅ 2024-12-17 - [x] Mock up design for problem-solving activity ✅ 2024-12-18 - [x] Mock up design for human vs AI activity ✅ 2024-12-20 - [x] Mock up design for socratic tutor activity ✅ 2024-12-20
