Recently, I decided to take a break from Ira Project. In July, I noticed that when working on Ira I somehow wasn't experiencing the kind of joy and excitement I got in the initial days. I felt that work was a chore and I found it hard to stay motivated.
When I started Ira Project the goal was to leverage artificial intelligence and build learning experiences that could create more joy, equity, agency and progress (See [[On Education]]). I have been tackling problems in learning and education for a while through my non-profit Vismaya Kalike. The brick and mortar nature of ViKa makes it a lot harder to scale and I truly believed that a technology solution might be the way to scale ideas in education.
When I reflected on my [[One year of Ira Project]] I realised that somehow the journey had taken me far away from the initial vision I set. Our most updated product only creates joy for motivated learners, is only used by high cost private schools and does not move the needle in terms of agency at all. We had become the exact same as everything I hated in many products around - a minor improvement. Mopping the floor rather than turning off the faucet.

Don't get me wrong; I'm proud of what we built and I learnt a lot in the journey. I still believe that there is a technology solution out there that will allow us to scale ideas in education, I just don't think that this is the right time for me to build it. I simply don't have the courage to build what I set out to and am not willing to make the sacrifices necessary.
Ira Project will continue to exist and we will make it available for free for teachers around the world who are interested in using it. We will add content to the platform when we are free and continue to create unique learning activities.
If any of you are interested in contributing or repurposing what we've built or even just to chat about what we've learnt do reach out to me at
