I fundamentally believe that education must not be privatised and that every government must guarantee to its citizens the right to a quality education. However, I am mindful that in the world we live in for something to truly scale and reach millions of people it must create economic value. I'm writing this essay before we embark on scaling to serve as a reminder to myself on what I set out to do and our vision for building an ethical business that scales to millions of users around the world. 1. At its core the Ira Project must remain a tool and not a service. Much like the laptop or the phone that educators and learners around the world use to learn, Ira must allow everyone in the world to use it as they see fit. 2. We must work to allow Ira to be forked and customised in any way possible by educators and developers alike. The AI models and codebase must be made public and easily accessible to anyone so they are able to evaluate it. 3. Ira Project must strive to lower costs as much as possible to ensure that it can be made available in low resource settings. 4. While private institutions can be good starting points, we should work towards building for public schools and colleges. 5. Allowing for co-creation and co-design of the platform as soon as possible. This could mean allowing educators to create their own versions of Ira without requiring technical or coding skills. 6. Making Ira available for free as a D2C application for anyone around the world to use. 7. Commit to distributing at least 25% of personal wealth we might make off of this project to fund public education around the world. These are just initial starting points and I will definitely be adding to this list. Do drop a note if you have any more ideas or thoughts.
