I had a group in charge of making a [hexaflexagon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-E5pc7zyP8) today as part of summer camp activities. The learners really surprised me with their discipline and interest in doing the activity. They were able to use the resources very fairly and it was awesome to see that I also got all the resources back. Since I had shown them a demo of what it looked like the learners were really keen on working to make this happen. The colouring part of the hexaflexagon was very easy for the learners and this is something we should try to build into other activities as well. It helps to have such an easy first step and foot in the door that helps attract the learners. This is so that learners aren’t too intimidated and feel like things are achievable. After the colouring was over the younger learners needed my help to do the folds and the sticking. Some learners got a little impatient when they had to wait for some time to get my help but by and large they were okay with waiting. I was happy to see many of the learners figure out how to fold and stick the flexagon themselves. Perhaps if there was less pressure there would have been more learners trying things themselves. That is something we could have built into the activity. I was amazed today to see how well the learners responded to the activity. Though it was hard since it was something cool for them to make and something they were interested in, they were very engaged and also did not give us much trouble at all. I really feel excited about the possibilities that we can achieve seeing how well the learners responded. It is important to identify the right kind of activity to work as well. The flexagon was sufficiently easy for all the learners to do some parts. At the same time it offered sufficient complexity and was cool to fidget with for the learners to feel a sense of accomplishment.
