The number of girl learners at the center continues to be a concern. The few who are at the center are extremely productive and have been learning a lot. However there are only 4 or 5 girls at the center in comparison with the 25 boys. Today I spent most of my time with the girls at the center. They were the ones who wanted to spend time and were asking me for some puzzles to do. I’ve found that the girls at the center are less prone to violence and conflict too. While I don’t want to stereotype or generalise, I couldn't help but notice the contrast between the way girls and boys respond to things in their environment. I feel much of this has to do with the patriarchy and toxic masculinity that is so prevalent in the society around us. Or perhaps it is a learned understanding of the girls in society to follow rules and to be less defiant of authority. Either way today I definitely found myself wishing that the girls who wanted to learn could have a better environment and would get quite annoyed when some learners were disturbing and disrupting.
