I lost my patience today with one of the learners and for the first time was forced to drop my democratic ideals. I personally feel that we’re not equipped to handle such a learner and I asked him to leave the center. Before starting our usual game since today was rainy many of the learners took time to trickle in. During this time a troublesome learner was very violent towards some others. When I asked him about it he said he was just playing though the other learners were clearly not comfortable with him. Throughout the week I had told him off for hitting other learners (not in a playful manner but in a more violent and dangerous manner) and for showing disrespect for us and other learners. When we tried to have a conversation with him he would run away or completely ignore what we were saying. I even took him to the side and had a personal chat with him trying to understand what his issue was. He had told me that predominantly he was being teased and was merely reacting. I advised him against reacting after much difficulty getting him to sit in a place and respond. Our other facilitators too has struggled with him for a long time. Perhaps we should encourage his parents to seek some help to handle such a learner. Today I lost my patience as he was hitting and bullying other learners right in front of me despite me standing there telling him not to. He had been troubling every single learner and facilitator at the center. For the first time I raised my voice and sent the learner home. I initially gave him an option of sitting near a facilitator (since he has violent tendencies) or to go home. He refused to sit near a facilitator so I had no other option but to send him home. I had told him he could come on Thursday if he was willing to be mindful of others’ space but a community member intervened and told him to not come back to the center.
